Last month, William Wegman was in the flesh at Krannert Art Museum for his solo exhibition, Artists Including Me: William Wegman. I was hired by The University of Illinois to shoot a portrait of Wegman and to capture some candids as he made his way through the gallery to talk about his artwork. I grew up watching Wegman’s Weimaraners on Sesame Street and have been entertained by his playfulness in photography ever since. It was an honor to meet him and to hear firsthand what his art is all about. In the last image below, I asked Bill to take a moment to himself to view a piece he enjoys and he made his way over to the mint green Polaroid of his Weimaraners’ back.
This little gem that escaped his lips: “You can touch the artwork at the museum, if it’s yours.”
